Η Επιτροπή Μελών της IAML εγκαινιάζει το νέο Research Support Program

Η Επιτροπή Μελών της IAML (IAML Membership Committee) εγκαινιάζει το νέο Research Support Program, μια πρωτοβουλία που απευθύνεται στα μέλη της IAML και έχει στόχο να υποστηρίξει την ανάπτυξη ερευνητικών και επαγγελματικών σχεδίων στους τομείς της μουσικής βιβλιοθηκονομίας, των μουσικών αρχείων και συναφών πεδίων.

Το πρόγραμμα θα πραγματοποιηθεί από τον Οκτώβριο του 2026 έως τον Ιούνιο του 2027 και συνδυάζει εργαστήρια, ατομικές συναντήσεις με Research Mentors και ομαδικές συναντήσεις μεταξύ των συμμετεχόντων. Η συμμετοχή είναι δωρεάν.

Παράλληλα, έχει ανοίξει πρόσκληση τόσο για συμμετέχοντες όσο και για Research Mentors. Η προθεσμία υποβολής αιτήσεων είναι η Τρίτη 20 Οκτωβρίου 2026.

Dear Colleagues,

The IAML Membership Committee is pleased to launch the Research Support Program, a new initiative to foster a culture of research. Built by IAML members for IAML members, the Program pairs participants with Research Mentors and provides structured guidance from the early stages of idea development through to conference-ready presentations and posters.

This 8-hour program runs from October 2026 to June 2027 and includes:

  • Three workshops

1.       Starting a research/project

2.       Drafting a presentation proposal and applying for IAML congress travel funding

3.       Getting ready for congress

  • Three one-on-one meetings with a Research Mentor
  • Two group meetings with fellow participants

Participation is free of charge.

Applications Now Open

IAML individual members in good standing with an interest in research or project related to music librarianship, music archives, or related areas are invited to apply. Up to 10 participants will be accepted, with priority given to students and members who have joined IAML within the past three years. To apply, complete this Application Form for Participants. Deadline: Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

Call for Research Mentors

IAML individual members and professionals affiliated with IAML institutional members who have experience presenting at conferences or publishing scholarly work within the past five years are also invited to contribute as Research Mentors. The expected commitment is approximately eight hours over the course of the Program, including preparation time, group meetings, and three one-on-one meetings with participants. This is a volunteer role. To become a Research Mentor, complete this Expression of Interest for Research Mentors form. Deadline: Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

H IAML καταδικάζει την δήλωση της 27ης Ιανουαρίου 2017 του Αμερικανού Προέδρου D. Trump

Το παρακάτω κείμενο δημοσιεύθηκε από την Barbara Dobbs Mackenzie εκ μέρους του Δ.Σ. της IAML και αφορά την δήλωση που έκανε ο Πρόεδρος των Η.Π.Α. Donald Trump για την είσοδο των μεταναστών στην Αμερική από τις εξής χώρες: Ιράν, Ιράκ, Λιβύη, Σομαλία, Σουδάν, Συρία και Υεμένη. Η πρόεδρος, εκ μέρους του Δ.Σ. της IAML καταδικάζει την δήλωση αυτή, η οποία έρχεται ενάντια στους σκοπούς και τους στόχους της και υποστηρίζει τα ιδρύματα και τις βιβλιοθήκες εκείνων των χωρών, ενισχύοντας τη συνεργασία και την αλληλεγγύη που αποτελούν βασικό σκοπό της Διεθνούς Ένωσης.

The International Association of Music Libraries, Archives, and Documentation Centres (IAML), established in 1951, condemns national and international policies that work against its purposes as stated in its constitution, and particularly its primary goals to encourage and promote the activities of libraries, archives and documentation centres concerned with music and music materials; to strengthen cooperation among institutions and individuals working in these fields and to publish information concerning their work; and to promote a better understanding of the cultural importance of music libraries, archives and documentation centres both nationally and internationally.  Any hindrance to the free and full exchange of information and the opportunity to engage fully in professional activities and training pertaining to music libraries, archives, and documentation centres across all countries in the world are antithetical to these goals.

As such, IAML condemns the Executive Order issued by US President Trump(link is external) on 27 January 2017 temporarily barring entry into the United States by citizens from seven countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen).

IAML stands by all of its institutional and individual members, and its national branches, in support and furtherance of their professional activities. Further, IAML welcomes all persons and institutions, from every country, wishing to further the goals of the Association, including the formation of new national branches in all parts of the world. Diversity and inclusion are fundamental to IAML and its activities.

Recently IAML has been working to enhance connections with and among related institutions and individuals in the Middle East, including helping to organize a conference in Abu Dhabi together with its sister societies, the International Council for Traditional Music(link is external) and the International Musicological Society(link is external), called “Music As Cultural Heritage: Problems of Historiography, Ethnography, Ethics and Preservation”, to take place in March 2017. Here we hope to gain a better understanding of the conditions, challenges, and successes of music libraries, archives, and documentation centres in this region with the aim of mutual learning and support among colleagues.
